HEALTH LADDER

T. COLIN CAMPBELL, PhD
-Dr. Campbell, Professor at Cornell University, has spent 40 years conducting the most comprehensive study of the relationship between diet and health ever conducted in the history of mankind.
-His 2004 book, "The China Study," documents his work on this subject.
-One of Dr. Campbell's most significant findings is that people who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic disease, while people who ate the most plant-based food were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic disease.
-Also, Dr. Campbell documents experiements in which he could turn cancer on or off in laboratory rats primarily by the amount of cow milk products they fed or withheld from the rats.
-We've been fortunate to receive Dr. Campbell's teachings on this subject in person.
HALLELUJAH DIET & LIFESTYLE

WHY DO WE GET SICK?
-Sickness and disease are simply our beautiful, God-made bodies reacting to the bad things we expose them to.
-God designed our body to operate on the fuel of raw fruits and vegetables.
-Genesis 1:29: "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb (vegetable) bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat (food)."
-These fruits and vegetables were consumed in a natural, raw, organic, uncooked form, because there were no pollutants in the atmosphere, and fire hadn't been discovered.
-Genesis 3 records the fall of man by Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
-Genesis 3:22 indicates that God originally created man to live forever.
-In Genesis 5 & 6, we see that God wasn't happy with man--in fact so unhappy that He was threatening to wipe out the entire human race. It it hadn't been for Noah, none of us would be here today.
-In Genesis 6:3, God said, "My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years."
-The Bible reveals that in the almost 2,000 year period of history between creation and the flood in Genesis 7, man lived an average of 912 years without a single recorded instance of sickness.
-Evidence points to man being sustained on a pure raw fruit and vegetable diet during this time.
-In Genesis 9:3, after the flood, God said, "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat (food) for you, even as the green herb have I given you all things."
-Within 10 generations after the introduction of animal flesh and cooked food, the life span decreased from an average of 912 years to 110 years (See Genesis 50:26).
We don't know why God allowed animal flesh to be added to the diet after the flood. Could it be that He did that to shorten the life span of man, as indicated in Genesis 6:3?
-Several New Testament scriptures, such as I Timothy 4:1-6, indicate that meat was eaten.
-However, meat than was only 3% fat, or the same as many animals in the wild today. Beef, as grown today, is 20 to 30% fat. Pork is 40 to 60% fat.
-Meat in Bible days wasn't full of antibiotics, growth hormones, preservatives, toxins, and cancer. Fish didn't live in polluted water, as they do today.
-Therefore, we believe that results of eating meat today are far worse than when the referenced scriptures were written.

ANIMAL PRODUCTS
-Animal products are loaded with fat and evidence indicates they are the most dangerous food we put in our bodies.
-The average American meat eater consumes over 100 pounds of fat per year.
-This fat clogs the arteries, ultimately causing heart attacks and strokes that kill nearly 50% of our population.
-Evidence indicates that meat is the primary cause of cancer, which kills about 24% of our population, and adult-onset diabetes, which kills about 8% of our population.
-It causes arthritis, gout, and many other physical problems. It even causes bad breath and body odor.
-Eliminating animal products, margarine, and other hydrogenated oils from our diet will reduce risk of heart attack or stroke by about 96%.
-Eliminating animal products, smoking and estrogen will reduce risk of cancer to almost zero.
-Eliminating animal products and hydrogenated oils will reduce risk of adult-onset diabetes to almost zero.
-Eliminating animal products will reduce risk of osteoporosis to almost zero.
-Eliminating animal products will eliminate almost all colon problems, and most acid stomach problems.
-We are told that we need meat for protein and strength, but we aren't told that cooking meat changes the molecular structure of the protein and renders it unusable by the body. Not a single animal in the wild cooks the flesh it eats.
-The largest and strongest animals such as water buffalo, elephant, rhinoceros, giraffe, horse, and cow don't eat meat for protein, strength, or calcium.
-Substitutes for animal products include grain and nut dish recipes.
DAIRY
-Evidence indicates that dairy is the second most dangerous substance we can put in our bodies for many of the same reasons as meat.
-We are told that milk is the perfect food and that it is needed for calcium. We aren't told that pasteurizing milk, heating to 160 degrees, changes the calcium to an inorganic form, which can't be assimilated by the body.
-In nature, no animal pasteurizes its milk, drinks the milk of another animal, or drinks milk after the age of weaning.
-God designed cow milk to nourish a 50 to 90 pound baby cow from birth until it's old enough to eat grass on its own.
-The protein content of cow's milk is many times higher than human mother's milk and has a totally different composition.
-When cow milk is placed into a human baby, it often causes colic, mucus membrane problems, allergies, asthma, diaper rashes, runny noses, and fever.
-In reality, the body is reacting to the wrong fuel. In any human body, it causes some of the same problems, in addition to sinus and others.
-Substitutes for dairy include rice and almond milk, and rice and almond cheese.
SUGAR
-Sugar is an immune system suppressant. God gave us an immune system to protect the health and integrity of our bodies.
-When we consume concentrated amounts of sugar, we short-circuit our immune system and prevent it from doing its job.
-Sugar is so denatured and concentrated from its original plant form that it is actually a drug.
-In the beginning of the 20th Century, the average American consumed 7 pounds of sugar per year. Now it's 172 pounds per year, or over 50 teaspoons per day.
-Just 10 teaspoons of sugar, the approximate amount in one soft drink, will immobilize the immune system for one-third of the day. Three soft drinks will shut down the immune system for the entire day.
-A recent U.S. study reported that new research suggests that just one extra soft drink a day gives a child a 60% greater chance of becoming obese.
-Ice cream is about 37% sugar. Most cereals contain over 50% sugar.
-In addition to compromising our immune system, sugar affects our emotions, contributing to depression in adults and Attention Deficit Disorders in children and teenagers.
-Sugar causes the pancreas to malfunction, leading to hypoglycemia and mood swings.
-It depletes the body's reserve of B vitamins and other vitamins and minerals.
-Artificial sugar substitutes aren't the answer. They can cause even greater problems and must be avoided, if we want good health.
-Substitutes for sugar include raw unfiltered honey, pure maple syrup, and the herb stevia.
SALT
-Salt creates untold physical problems and suffering. The body needs sodium, but it must be in an organic form to be usable by the body.
-Table salt, sodium chloride, is an inorganic sodium and chlorine that is extremely toxic to the body, causing it to retain fluid in an effort to keep this poison in suspension and out of the cells.
-Table salt and all minerals originating in the earth or ocean, or found in mineral supplements, are in a dead form and thus toxic to the body.
-These inorganic minerals contribute to kidney stones and gall stones. Plaque and hardening of the arteries result when these minerals join with fat in our bodies.
-We can obtain all the organic sodium we need on a diet of raw fruits and vegetables.
-Most fruits and vegetables contain organic sodium.
Substitutes for salt include Celtic Sea Salt, Nama Shoyu, or fresh or dried herbs. Celery is a good sodium source.
WHITE FLOUR
-White flour is hazardous to health. It has had all the good substances, bran and germ, removed during processing.
-Then it is bleached, sometimes with bleaching agent similar to Clorox.
-Finally, they add some coal-tar-derived, carcinogenic vitamins and sell it to the unsuspecting public as "enriched."
-White flour is devoid of fiber and contains zero nutrition.
-It clogs up the intestines, creates excess mucus in the sinus passages, and depletes the nutrient levels as the body works to digest it.
-Substitutes for white flour include whole grain flours, brown Basmati rice, brown rice, whole grain pastas, and vegetable pastas.
CAFFEINE
-Caffeine in coffee, tea, and soft drinks is an extremely dangerous substance. It's an addictive drug.
-It damages the lining of our stomachs, constricts arteries, contributes to heart attacks and strokes, damages liver and kidneys, and may contribute to at lease six different kinds of cancers.
-Caffeine is called a stimulant because it excites the nerve endings in an effort to rid the body of this poisonous substance.
-Substitutes for caffeine include Roma (a barley, rye, and chicory coffee substitute, used as you would instant coffee), caffeine-free herbal teas, carob instead of chocolate, and distilled water.
NO FIBER
-The six "killer foods" have no fiber.
-70% of Americans suffer from constipation, due to insufficient fiber.
-Constipation is the number one affliction underlying nearly every ailment.
-Constipation interferes with the functioning of every cell, organ, and gland.
ALCOHOL & NICOTINE
-These are dangerous drugs. Don't use them if you want ultimate health.
HYDROGENATED OIL
-A very dangerous substance--Margarine, Crisco, etc.
-Oil is heated to very high temperatures, then hydrogen gas is pumped through it until it becomes solid.
-It clogs arteries and causes problems similar to animal products and dairy.
SYNTHETIC VITAMINS & PROCESSED FOODS
-There is a major difference between a fresh, living, raw carrot and one that has been boiled, baked, steamed, radiated, processed, or preserved and stored in a can.
-Dr. Normal Walker, Father of juicing therapy, said, "One pint of carrot juice daily, has more constructive body value than 25 pounds of calcium tablets."
WHY EAT AT LEAST 85% OF OUR FOOD RAW?
-Over 90% of food consumed by Americans has been cooked.
-Food heated above 107 degrees F has most nutritional value destroyed.
-Cooking destroys all enzymes, which are the life force within plants.
-Cooking destroys about 83% of vitamins, converts protein to uric acid, and changes the organic, living, minerals into inorganic, dead, form.
RAW VERSUS COOKED FOOD
-In the 1940's, Dr. Francis M. Pottenger conducted a 10-year research project on raw versus cooked foods, using 900 cats.
-He fed all the cats the same food, however, one group received it raw, while the other group received it cooked.
-Cats that were fed raw, living food produced healthy kittens year after year with no ill health or premature death.
-Cats fed the same food, only cooked, developed heart disease, cancer, kidney and typhoid disease, pneumonia, paralysis, loss of teeth, arthritis, birthing difficulties, diminished sexual interest, diarrhea, irritability, liver problems, and osteoporosis.
-The first generation of kittens, from cats fed cooked food, were sick and abnormal, the second generation were often born diseased or dead, and by the third generation, the mothers were sterile.
-Reports reveal that at least one-third of American couples can't produce a baby. Could it be that our human race may be on its way to extinction because of cooked food?
PROTEIN
-The average American consumes over 100 grams of protein daily, which is 3 to 5 times as much as experts now say is necessary. Researchers have concluded that 20 to 30 grams daily are enough.
-Protein is an essential nutrient, but excessive amounts of animal protein can be hazardous to our health.
-Excessive animal protein can cause cancer, liver and kidney disorders, digestive problems, gout, arthritis, calcium deficiencies (including osteoporosis), and other harmful mineral imbalances.
-Numerous studies have found that animals and humans subjected to high animal protein diets have consistently higher rates of cancer.
-The meat, dairy, and egg industries funded "nutritional education" for children and doctors that incorrectly taught we need their animal products for human protein needs.
-Much of the evidence to support their claim was based on a now discredited experiment on rats conducted in 1914.
-Eating meat, or animal protein in general, doesn't give us strength, energy, or stamina.
-In the animal kingdom, herbivores such as cattle, oxen, horses, and elephants are known for strength and endurance. They eat and live on plants, not animal products.
-Dr. Ted Mortimer, Jr. writes: "Protein is a negative energy food. It is credited with being an energy producer. However, energy is used to digest it, and energy is needed to neutralize the excessive acidity it leaves."
-He says, "Protein uses more energy than it generates. It is a negative energy source."
-The best source of protein is from the same raw fruit and vegetables that provide all the other nutrients: vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and carbohydrates we need.
-Protein composes 15% of our body. The protein we take in should be living rather than dead, so that our body can assimilate it at the cellular level and use it to build healthy new living cells.
-By weight, barley leaves are more than 40% protein, which is 90% useable.
-By comparison, hamburger is about 20% protein, but it has 40% or more of fat.
CALCIUM
-There is no useable calcium in dairy products. The pasteurizing of dairy products changes the organic calcium to an inorganic, unusable form.
-We need calcium to build strong bones, but the inorganic calcium can form kidney stones, gall stones, tumors, and calcium deposits in joints, while leaving our bones deficient in calcium.
-No animal in the wild pasteurizes the milk it feeds its young.
-No animal in the wild drinks the milk of another animal, or drinks milk after the age of weaning.
-The cow gets its calcium from the grass it eats. Therefore, we should eat raw vegetables for our calcium needs.
-Dr. Frank A. Oski, M.D. states, "Cow milk has no valid claim as the perfect food. As nutrition, it produces allergies in infants, diarrhea and cramps in older children and adults, and may be a factor in the development of heart attacks and strokes."
-Other disorders include gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anemia, skin rashes, atherosclerosis, acne, recurrent ear infections and bronchitis.
-Also, Dr. Oski indicates there are dairy links to leukemia, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and dental decay.
-Milk and other dairy products are not good food, but rather dangerous substances that are hazardous to our health.
-All the nutrients, including calcium, that our body needs can and should be obtained from raw fruits and vegetables.
-Dr. Neal Barnard, M.D. states, "Green leafy vegetables provide generous amounts of calcium without the animal protein of meaty diets. Green vegetables such as broccoli, collard greens, and kale are loaded with calcium."
OBESITY
-Approximately 33% of American adults and 20% of children are obese, generally defined as being 30% or more above ideal weight.
-Total costs attributable to obesity-related disease is about 100 billion dollars annually.
-Americans spend over 33 billion dollars annually on weight loss products and services.
-Major risk factors in obesity are high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer.
-Being overweight accounts for more than 300,000 premature deaths annually in the U.S., second only to tobacco related premature deaths.
-Diabetes increased 33% among American adults during the 1990's, reflecting a similar surge in obesity during the same period.
-At any given time, about 40% of women and 25% of men are trying to lose weight.
-We believe the Hallelujah Diet & Lifestyle, combined with other plant-based diets, is the healthiest, easiest, and most effective weight loss and control concept available.
ESTROGEN
-Evidence indicates that estrogen in animal products is jump-starting puberty in our children.
-Fifty years ago, most girls experienced puberty after age 15.
-Following World War II, the meat industry began putting synthetic hormones into animals and animal feed to hasten growth.
-More recently, the dairy industry started using hormones, so cows would produce more milk.
-After 50 years of consuming these hormones, the age of puberty has plunged to ages 8, 9, and 10.
-We and others believe that growth hormones (estrogen) in animal products, and estrogen prescribed by doctors, may be the primary cause of most breast, uterine, and prostate cancers.
OXYGEN
-The greatest need of the body is "pure air."
-Approximately 96% of our nutritional needs come from the air. The purer the air, the higher the quality of nourishment.
-We can live about 4 minutes without oxygen, about 4 days without water, and about 40 days without food.
PURE WATER
-Today, man has so polluted the earth, that it's almost impossible to find a source of "pure water."
-Even rainwater picks up so many pollutants as it falls through the atmosphere that it normally isn't pure when it reaches the ground.
-Probably the best way to obtain pure water is to purify our own drinking water in our home with a steam water distiller.
-The body uses water to cleanse and remove toxins, to lubricate, and to cool the body when overheated, etc.
-The body is composed of from 75% to 85% water.
-For the proper functioning of the body to maintain health, to cleanse, or to heal, the body must have pure water.
-Everything our body does, it needs water.
-A good "rule-of-thumb" to determine the amount of water your body needs per day is to divide your body weight by the number 2. The result is the suggested number of ounces of water your body needs per day.
EXERCISE
-Exercise is preventive medicine! The body was built for activity. If it isn't used, it deteriorates.
-For the body to function properly and in order to experience ultimate health--daily, vigorous, physical exercise is absolutely necessary.
-Attempt to find an exercise that you enjoy. Exercise as vigorously as your health allows for at least 30 minutes , at least 3 days weekly; 5 days weekly are desirable.
-Walking is a great exercise. Build up to one mile in 15 minutes, two miles in 30 minutes, then more if desired.
-Consider additional exercises, such as jogging, bicycling, treadmill, mini-trampoline, swimming, etc. Consistency is important.
SUNSHINE
-All of God's creation is dependent on the sun for life. The body can't function properly without sunshine.
-The sun is man's best source of vitamin D.
-The sun makes it possible for the body to assimilate calcium; it supplies the body with energy; it warms and soothes the body. We should spend time in the sun!
ADEQUATE REST
-The purpose of sleep is so the body will have time to cleanse itself, recharge itself with energy for the next day's activities, and repair and rebuild its cells.
-Sleep should be enjoyable. It should be in a quiet place with abundant pure air.
-The quality of sleep a person experiences is often a good indicator of his physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
POSITIVE THINKING
-Proverbs 17:22 says, "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones."
-We have conclusive evidence that many illnesses are the result of negative thinking and unstable emotions.
-Positive thinking and a positive outlook on life are necessary ingredients for a healthy, happy, and successful life.
A HALLELUJAH DIET DAY
-Here is our typical day on the HD.
-Arise after 7 to 8 hours of sleep.
-Weigh ourselves and log our body weight.
-Mix and drink 2 teaspoons of BarleyLife and 1 teaspoon of RediBeets in 8 ounces of fresh carrot juice.
-If carrot juice isn't available, mix the BarleyLife, RediBeets, and 2 teaspoons of AIM Just Carrots (concentrated powdered carrots) in 4 to 6 ounces of water, preferably distilled water.
-Don't drink or eat anything else for at least 30 minutes, in order to get maximum nutrition from the previous drink.
-Perform 1 to 1.5 hours of exercises: push-ups, sit-ups, curls with weight barbells, rebounder (mini-trampoline), treadmill, swimming, etc. (Applies to Hank; Lill uses exercise bike.)
-Breakfast: Fresh fruit, such as banana, grapefruit, mango, kiwi, orange, apple, or fruit salad. Some people eat no breakfast.
-Lunch: Sometimes we mix and drink BarleyLife, RediBeets and Carrot Juice, or Just Carrots, as before breakfast in the morning.
-After at least 30 minutes, eat fresh fruit, unless fruit was eaten for Breakfast. If fruit was eaten for Breakfast, eat melon or a fresh vegetable salad. It's important that this be an all raw meal.
-Afternoon Snack
Raw almonds or sunflower seeds make an excellent, nutritious afternoon snack. Raw almonds are the only alkaline nut, so they are the best nut available. Limit to no more than 4 ounces daily.
Supper
-Mix and drink BarleyLife, RediBeets, Carrot Juice, or Just Carrots, as before breakfast in the morning.
-After at least 30 minutes, eat a large green vegetable salad of leafy lettuce, such as Romaine lettuce (never head lettuce), spinach, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, etc.
-Usually, this is followed by some cooked food, such as baked potato, baked sweet potato, brown rice, steamed vegetables, whole-grain pasta, whole-grain bread, etc. Frequently, we have delicious and nutritious desserts that comply with the HD principles.
-Later in the evening, have a glass of organic apple juice or a piece of juicy fruit.
A HALLELUJAH DIET DAY CONTINUED
-In order to get the essential fatty acids our bodies need, we should take 2 AIMega, organic seed oil blend capsules twice daily, or one tablespoon of UDO's Choice Perfected Blend of oils, or 1 tablespoon of flax oil, or 1 tablespoon of ground flax seed, daily.
-These oils may be taken either on the evening salad or straight out of the bottle, which we prefer.
-We consider AIM BarleyLife to be the single, most important food we put into our bodies each day.
-We take at least 4 teaspoons daily. (2 teaspoons morning, sometimes 2 teaspoons at noon, and 2 teaspoons evening). Sometimes we substitute 6 BarleyLife capsules for 2 teaspoons of powder. At least 4 teaspoons are recommended daily.
-We consider freshly extracted carrot juice, made from large California juicing carrots, to be the second most important food we put into our bodies each day.
-We take at least 2 eight-ounce servings of carrot juice, or 4 teaspoons of Just Carrots, daily. At least 1 tablespoon, or 12 Just Carrot caplets are recommended daily.
VITAMIN B-12
-A Hacres study revealed early signs of B-12 deficiency in 48% of people tested, after using the HD for 2 to 4 years.
-B-12 deficiency can cause or contribute to a wide range of neurological symptoms.
-Hacres recommends that people who use a strict HD take one-half of a 1000 mcg, sublingual (under the tongue) B-12 supplement at least twice weekly and/or receive periodic blood tests for B-12 adequacy.
MORE HD INFORMATION
-If one has cancer, they should consider the following: "Experts" that we know agree it appears that granulated sugar causes cancer to spread. Some believe that fruit sugar may cause the same. However, some believe the benefits of fruit outweigh any possible detrimental effects of fruit sugar on cancer. We tend to agree with the latter, but you should decide.
-If one has candida, they shouldn't have fruit or carrot juice until the condition is resolved, because of the high glycemix index.
-If one has diabetes, they should monitor their blood sugar level carefully while transitioning to the HD. Dilute carrot juice with water until the body adapts, as indicated by the blood sugar level.
THE HEALING CRISIS
-Rev. George Malkmus estimates that about 40% of people who make a major dietary change to natural foods may experience some unpleasant symptoms for a few days.
-Symptoms vary among individuals, but usually involve headaches, pimples, nausea, cold-like symptoms, and/or loss of energy.
-This is caused by toxins being eliminated from body cells and organs.
-For most people, a healing crisis doesn't last more than two or three days. When it is over, many people report feeling better than they have ever felt in their lives.
-Recommendations to minimize healing crisis symptoms include, slowing down on green barley and other raw foods, while eating more cooked food such as lightly-steamed vegetables, which will make the body's transition more gradual. Drinking more freshly extracted vegetable juices, such as carrot, and more water usually reduce the symptoms.
-The most important thing is don't get discouraged and quit the healthier living process, but endure for a few days and reap tremendous health benefits.
